Jennette McCurdy Says She's "Not a Role Model¨

Jennette McCurdy doesn't think she's a role model—or at least, not anymore. The Nickelodeon star went on a lengthy rant about not wanting fans to look up to her via Reddit on Thursday, July 24.

"I am not a role model. I don't claim to be, I don't try to be, and I don't want to be. There was a time when I tried to live up to the aggrandizing title, that pedestal of a thing. Maybe it wasn't so much that I was trying to live up to it. Perhaps I thought I could and I thought I was supposed to, so I gave it my best shot," the actress, whose series Sam & Cat was recently cancelled after one season, said.
"It's fine, I can admit it. Back in my adolescence, I was more amiable, bubbly, and on lightly humid days, maybe even flouncy. I was role model material and then some," she continued. "Fast forward a few years, I've grown up a bit (emphasis on 'a bit'). I might not be any wiser, but I like to think I'm more honest."
Controversy has followed McCurdy during her time on the Nickelodeon series. The star made headlines when racy lingeries pictures of herself leaked in March. The following month, she slammed rumors that the series was coming to an end due to tension between she and costar Ariana Grande.
Clearly, McCurdy has grown up a lot while in the spotlight. "I realize that to attempt to live up to the idea of being a role model is to set myself up for foregone failure. Sure, I've made some mistakes, but even if I hadn't, people would have found invisible ones," she wrote. "This world is one seemingly most keen on judgment and negativity, despite all the hearts and smiley emoticons. To remove myself from the role model battle, the falsified standard set by the bubblegum industry, is - in my eyes - to remove myself from the counterintuitive battle of attempting to be something perfect while being glaringly aware of my imperfections."
"Calling a celebrity a role model is like calling a stranger a role model. The knowledge you have of a celebrity is no more than a caricature drawn by media tastemakers specializing in selling you an image you’re dying to buy," she added. "It's good to have heroes, but you have to look for them in the right places. They say don't look for true love in a bar, well I say, don't look for role models on screens."
McCurdy admitted that she still loves her teddy bears and even her American Girl dolls, but what defines a person as a role model is how they live their life. "And no offense," she wrote, "but none of you know how I live my life."

Packing on the PDA at the baggage claim! Sofia Vergara and her hunky new boyfriend Joe Manganiello turned up the Miami heat on Thursday, July 24, when they were snapped passionately kissing inside the airport.

The gorgeous pair, fresh off a flight from L.A., held hands and grinned wide as they arrived in the tropical city for their first vacation together as a couple. Manganiello, 37, wrapped his buff arms around the gorgeous Modern Family star, 42, as she leaned up for a smooch.

Vergara looked comfortable in faded flared jeans and a thin sweater, with a zebra print scarf bundled around her neck. Manganiello also kept it casual in torn denim paired with a graphic T-shirt of James Dean's headshot. He went more incognito with a baseball cap.

Audrina Patridge Paints Body Blue as X-Men's Mystique For Comic-Con

Who knew Audrina Patridge was such a Comic-Con fan? The 29-year-old former reality star and 1stLook host hit the San Diego convention on Friday, July 25 in an impressive head-to-toe Mystique costume. 


Patridge showed her dedication by painting most of her body blue like the shape-shifting X-Men character, portrayed by Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence in the most recent films and Rebecca Romijn in earlier installments. True to form, The Hills alum documented her shocking transformation on Instagram as a team of makeup artists worked to give her skin Mystique's unique texture and blue hue. 

"check out #faceoff tonight on the sci fi channel @cigneutron is a contestant on it!! ..We are working together for @1stlooktv #ComicCon2014," the late night host tweeted prior to her makeover. 

After replacing Ali Fedotowsky on 1stLook this season, Patridge has filmed all over the country for the NYC-based travel show. It airs Saturday nights after Saturday Night Live.

‘Sam & Cat’ Canceled: Ariana Grande Show Ending After One Season

Sam & Cat won’t be returning for a second season, according to the show’s recent promo and a new report.

Before Sam & Cat’s most recent episode on July 12, Nickelodeon released a promo that said there’s “only two more episodes of Sam & Cat left!” 

The last episode is set to air July 17, titled “#GettinWiggy,” and Deadlineconfirms that it will be Jennette and Ariana’s final episode for the show.

“Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat,” the network told the site in a statement. “We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”

The hybrid spinoff of iCarly and Victoriouswas initially set for a 20 episode first season and then was awarded 20 more episodes. After some behind-the-scenes issues, only 36 episodes were ultimately made.

The end of Sam & Cat comes after a major controversy concerning star Jennette. Jennette recently dealt with a racy scandal after naked photos were leaked of the 22-year-old. Plus, there have been rumors that Jennette and Ariana really don’t get along.

Jennette’s nude selfie scandal stirred up scrutiny at Nickelodeon. After the leak by her ex-boyfriendAndre Drummond, the starlet didn’t show up to the Kids Choice Awards and has since laid low.

“The future of Sam & Cat is hanging by a silky thread after sultry selfies shot by one of the show’s thong-clad stars, Jennette McCurdy, were leaked online last month,” the New York Daily News reported in April.

In addition, there were rumors swirling that Jennette was angry that Ariana made more money on the show than she did, but Ariana dismissed those rumors as “completely ridiculous.”

Jennette also posted a very vicious message about a “trouble friend” who was a “leech for drama and gossip,” and some people interpreted that person as Ariana.

All of this drama seems to have culminated into the end of Sam & Cat. We wish Jennette and Ariana the best in their future careers.
